"How am I supposed to pretend / I never want to see you again?"

I've been sitting on this post for a while lately, mostly because nothing interesting has been taking place. Well... other than the fact that I also got my first university acceptance from Northeastern (NOT Northwestern).  Okay, I really don't mean to toot my own horn (TOOT) but I'm super relieved because I was super-worried that I might not even get to go to university after I blew my chance at Cornell. So, LL - 1 and Fate - 1. Meh. More to come soon.

And the Olympics have been pretty sweet too, I suppose. The Chinese teams basically dominated the pairs' figure skating a few nights ago; they were flawless. Yeah, Olympics. Yeah Canada! And for lack of countries to support other than Canada, yeah, AUSTRALIA. Sorry, I'm going through a huge Jesse Spencer phase so I feel the incessant need to express my love of Aussies. Oh, Jesse Spencer <3

Time for a movie review so start squealing like a 10-year old girl about to meet Robert Pattinson.

1. Percy Jackson and the Olympians

I must admit that I had never heard of this movie until I watched the preview during Dear John and got rather excited (I've never read the books either). So for Grad skip day, where we got the opportunity to watch one of 3 movies, we (Emma, Emily, Holly, etc.) elected to see it rather than Valentines Day (which I don't think I will watch) and Dear John (gross gross gross). However, a whole bunch of jocks ended up crashing our movie because Wolfman was a PG-18 movie so they couldn't watch it. The result? Quite an interesting movie experience as the guys insisted on shouting/yelling at various moments throughout the movie; urging the characters to do this and that, etc. etc. So... yeah.

It was actually not a bad movie, if only for the special effects. The story revolves around teenager Percy Jackson who is diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. He attends a special school but is otherwise outwardly normal, that is, until he is ambushed by a teacher one day who is really a Fury (google it) in disguise. He soon finds that -- surprise, surprise -- he is the son of Poseidon, God of the Sea and has been accused of stealing Zeus' lightning bolt - the greatest weapon in the world or whatever. The bad news is that he has less than 2 weeks to recover the bolt before a war between the gods breaks out. Now hunted by god and mystical creature alike, Percy must save his mother, who was ransomed by Hades, and find the bolt to clear his name.

Uma Thurman as Medusa. She made a great gorgon.

The plot was actually a bit dodge and confusing; Percy and his homies were constantly engaged in mini-quests to find objects to aid in their larger quest to save Percy's mother or whatever. In the end, the storyline ended up being a bit too clever for itself, losing the audience somewhat in the process; though the historical references and allusions to various works (like the lotus-eaters in the Odyssey) were very cute. Plus, the dialogue was quite cheesy and the ending was immensely predictable. Okay, colour me harsh but I guess that's what's to be expected from a movie adapted from a young adult book. The effects were definitely impressive, though, and almost made up for the movie's other faults. It's not a bad watch if you want to watch it with a bunch of friends. A 7-ish out of 10.

Yeah. I watched PS I Love You last week too at Emma's (we made apple crumble... a bit of a fail) but I'm not in any mood to review it so ho hum. Hectic, hectic times to toodles.
